Welcome To Da Kine Designs

Its so weird to see how far Da Kine Designs has come in just a few short years. People often ask how our little business got started and I usually chuckle and answer “by accident”. In the spring of 2015 I had decided that I wanted to build an arcade for my garage, you know, for the kids! As that project progressed I found that it made a terrible mess in my garage and took up quite a bit of space in the process. So I asked my wife Beth if we could put up a small shop on our lot so I could have a workspace “think of all the stuff I could build for the house” was my selling point. She said yes, but I don’t think she bought my sales pitch!

Fast Forward a bit and Early in 2016 I had just started the Da Kine Designs’ Instagram Page https://www.instagram.com/da_kine_designs/?hl=en and had just met some really cool local makers at a small meetup. One of the guys mentioned competing in “The Builders Challenge” on Instagram. I figured , “what do I have to lose, I’ve never made any furniture before, but it might be fun to meet some new people”. Long story Short.. I won with my design of a walnut “x leg” style coffee table.

That is where Da Kine Designs really started, after people know that you can make stuff, they start to ask you to make stuff! Here we are a few years later and making all kinds of things for people, big things, small things, even restoring and modifying things… To this day I tell people that I’m not really a wood worker or a furniture builder. Those are things that I do and I enjoy, but I am a Maker, Learning to be a craftsman. Solving problems is my favorite thing and making unique stuff is nothing more than solving one small problem after another until you decide to stop!
